Fees

Anyone can see a psychologist. No referral is necessary.

Please check with Sandra or reception for fees. Please note that payments must be made in full on the day and can be made by cash, eftpos, or credit card.

Medicare rebates are available for those clients who are referred by a GP and are on a mental health care plan. This means that only a part of the total consult fee would need to be paid by the client.

As of 2025 the rebate from Medicare is set at approximately $145.25 for a one hour session, although this may be subject to change by the government, so please check the Medicare website for any changes. A smaller rebate is also available for chronic disease management plans/team care arrangement, also involving a referral from a GP.

Private Health Fund

Some private health funds provide rebates for psychological services. Check your ‘extras’ policy to see if psychology sessions are claimable and what the rebate would be.

The Medicare GP referral system

In November 2006 Medicare introduced a new item, the mental health care plan, for the provision of psychological therapies for people referred by a GP with a diagnosed mental health issue. Please note that to claim the rebate you must be referred by a GP.

The Medicare plan allows for a total of six sessions initially. Returning to your GP for a review may result in a further four sessions if he/she considers it appropriate.  A maximum of ten session rebates can be received in a calendar year (one can only access a maximum of 10 psychology sessions under a mental health care plan per year).

The Chronic disease management plan/team care arrangement under Medicare

Those managing a chronic or complex medical illness (a chronic medical condition lasting 6 months or more) may be eligible to receive a referral from GP for a rebate. Up to 5 visits with an allied health profession is allowed per year. Eligible medical conditions include Asthma, Cancer, Cardiovascular illness, Diabetes, Musculoskeletal conditions, or Stroke. Please note, sessions are likely to be shorter than 60 minutes.
